Her name is Tammy, and she has had a rough year.
She is beautiful, intelligent, funny and kind. She is, hands down, the single best thing I got from my ex-husband (I would venture to guess I am hers). I have loved her from the first moment I met her.
Tammy and I share a love of faeries, reading, and lying beside a pool in the sun for hours doing nothing. She has the most beautiful curly long hair, but if you ask her she will tell you she hates it. I know her least favorite body part but would never reveal it here.
We have supported each other through divorces, miscarriages, cancer, surgeries, losing people we love, losing jobs, starting new careers, weddings, and a birth. I watched her son Kiefer slip out of her body and into this world – it is one of my favorite memories.
We are on equal ground. Neither one of us takes too much or gives too little. We can go a month without talking and fall right back into that easy kind of friendship. She is the person I would call in the middle of the night if I needed something. And I am the person she calls when she needs emergency child care.
I had the honor of photographing Tammy and her family last week. The studio was immediately full of silliness, boys and love.
I hope every single ounce of love I have her and her family comes through in these images.
Here is to a better year my friend. I love you.
