More Fall Clothing Choices

Roberts Family Photography is continuing our series on what to wear when dressing a group for family portraits with a another lovely clothing set from Old Navy, Hannah Anderson and Steve Madden. I think the woman's shoes are probably a little too summer-ish for the Mid-Ohio Valley and a pair of over the jean boots would probably look great. The man's shoes by Steve Madden could easily be a pair of Chuck Taylors that coordinate with the rest of the look.

This time of year scarves, hats and vests look great too! Don't forget the fun accessories and you are all ready to go.

TIP #1: try EVERYTHING on together before your portrait session. Make sure everything fits and is wrinkle free a couple days before your portrait session. This is especially important with kids clothes because clothes that are too large hang oddly and can ruin an otherwise great shot.

Tip #2: Overalls in theory seem like the perfect clothing choice for baby portraits, they are cute, timeless and can look adorable in casual portraits. Overalls also have straps that fall down, bunch up around the ears and tend to wreak havoc on most 3-9 month portrait sessions. If you are dying to have your kiddos photograph's taken in overalls please make sure they fit snuggly - same goes for jumpers.

I happened across this image from Rebecca Keeling Studios illustrating a great series of outfits for a fall session.

I loved her use of texture and mixture of styles. I also love that no two outfits match exactly or clash. She used a lot of layers - which are very forgiving in portraits, and added fun extras like the fur collar and the fringy boots!  Remember, clothing choices can make or break a group shot!

 

Athens Birth Circle Update

The Athens Birth Circle is an organization that is near and dear to my heart - their mission is to empower women and families and educate them about all their birthing options. They are also amazing at supporting moms after the baby has arrived. I will be the sponsor for their next meeting on October 27th and the Athens Libray - details below! In honor of pregnancy and infant loss, we celebrate and mourn the short lives of our babies. The dedication ceremony will include readings, a time of sharing, and flower bulbs for families to plant at the site, in honor of the babies they have lost. If you cannot attend the ceremony, you may request that a bulb be planted for a child by responding to this email.

Taylor Parkersburg High School {Ohio West Virginia Senior Portrait Photographer}

Taylor, Roberts Family Photography True Beauty Model,  was a pleasure to work with. We went to her Uncle's farm out in Palestine - Devin had never been to that area so it was real treat for her. It rained the entire ride there and was still raining a bit when we started but after about 20 minutes the sky cleared up and let us have a great photo shoot!

When do you graduate?
May of 2011. I never thought the day would come, and now it is right around the corner!

 

What is your favorite item in your closet?
My pappy's sweater. It's the one thing that will always keep me close to him.

What is your dream job?
To be an actress on Broadway.

 

Who is the last person you got a text message from?
Haha, I don't have a phone at the moment (I know, a teenager without a phone?!), but the last time I used my mom's phone, I was texting my friend, Nick.

 


What three songs are played most on your ipod right now?
I'm a Fool to Want You by Billie Holiday, Night and Day by Frank Sinatra, and When The Sun Goes Down (from the In The Heights Broadway soundtrack) by Mandy Gonzalez and Christopher Jackson.

If you could be any kind of animal what would it be?
Oh my. A sheep, I believe. I absolutely adore them.

Why did you choose the shirt you are wearing right now?
Because today was Village People day for Spirit Week, and this shirt kind of fit in with the "Biker"/Glenn Hughes look I was going for.

What did you have for breakfast?
I didn't eat breakfast :x

 

What is your favorite TV show?
Oh goodness. I have too many to name. Glee, Bones, and Lie to Me are a few.

 


What did you love most about getting your portraits taken at Roberts Family Photography?
I was just talking about this actually. I loved how being photographed by Andi and Devin made me feel. The way they captured me showed me how truly beautiful I really am. I am in the business of acting, and actresses these days are pressured to be this perfect image. I have always struggled with my image, thinking I wasn't beautiful at all. Roberts Family Photography helped me see the True Beauty I really am.

What we loved most about photographing Taylor was that she put us in mind of a 1940's Hollywood Starlet. She was super easy to pose and a great sport about rolling around in the wet grass!
